Intra Oral Scanner – MEDIT i500

In the modern digital age there is more and more talk about digital dentistry. It is now part of everyday life in the modern dental clinic. An intraoral scanner is a device that replaces the classic dental ‘fingerprints’ taken by a dentist to copy the condition of a patient’s mouth (teeth and gums), creating a dummy on which a prosthesis is made (crown, bridge, partial or complete denture).

The scanner is a relatively small intraoral camera, which takes many images of the mouth and, through appropriate computer software, the images are reconstructed, thus creating three-dimensional models of high accuracy, perfect copies of the patient’s oral condition.

Advantages:

  • The main advantage of digital imaging is the reduced discomfort of the patient (reduction of the vomiting reflex that is often observed with the method of conventional imaging with discs and imprinting materials). Reduction of the feeling of restricted breathing, but also reduction of taste discomfort.
  • High data accuracy, reducing errors that may occur during the construction stages of the prosthetic work.
  • Reduction of the total time of taking impressions in the dental chair, reduction of the time until the final construction of the work, since the files are sent directly electronically to the laboratory via internet, to continue the digital design (CAD) and construction (CAM) of the prosthetic work.
  • Possibility of color 3D imaging of the mouth, imprinting of the texture of the tissues, as well as coloring of the teeth (better color rendering and permeability).
  • Finally, imaging allows better dentist-patient communication in treatment planning, especially in cases of smile redesign, where these digital tools allow the patient to see the final result very realistically, before the dentist even intervenes in the teeth.
