Tooth extraction
Tooth extraction is the most common oral operation and includes the removal of a tooth from its dental alveolus or socket. The reasons which lead to this operation are:
- Irreparable tooth damage due to advanced caries, root rupture or trauma.
- Primary teeth that have not erupted and prevent the growth of permanent teeth.
- Patients who are undergoing orthodontic treatment and need a tooth extraction to avoid overcrowding for space to be created for the remaining teeth to be arranged in the correct order.
- Advanced form of periodontal disease that results in the loss of a tooth or teeth.
